Faqtastic

Note: Faqtastic is a linkware script. That means that you may use and edit it as much as you like, as long as the message at the bottom of each page stays intact. Other than that, happy faqing!

Requirements

1. A server with PHP (version 4.1 or higher)
2. MySQL database support

Installation

1. Unzip the zip to a directory on your computer.
2. Open config.php in a text editor, and change the host, database name, username and password.
3. Upload everything to your server
4. Go to http://yourdomain.com/directory/install.php. Fill in the required information, and install!
5. Delete install.php from your server.
6. Go to http://yourdomain.com/directory/admin.php and change the options.
7. You're done! You may now begin answering questions and do whatever you want to. The FAQ can be viewed by going to http://yourdomain.com/directory/faq.php!

Upgrading from version 2 to 3

1. Unzip the zip to a directory on your computer.
2. Upload all files except config.php and install.php to your server, replacing the old ones.
3. You're done! You should now be able to log in as usual.

Template variables

In your template, there are a couple of variables that you can use to customize your template. Here's a list of them and what they do!

• %question% - This goes in the FAQ template, and it returns the question.
• %answer% - As above, but returns the answer.
• %name% - Returns the name if user entered one, or "anonymous" if user did not.
• %answered% - Goes in the header template, returns the number of answered questions.
• %unanswered% - As above, but returns the number of unanswered questions.
• %credits% - Must ALWAYS be in the footer template. Script won't work without it.

Questions and answers

Outside textarea - How can I have an "Ask!" form on my frontpage, or similar?
Use the code below, and put it whereever you want it. :)

Changelog

Version 3.0, December 1st, 2007: The only difference you're going to notice is the new admin-panel design, which I hope will improve the usability for everyone. However, most of the difference lies in the code, which has been optimized, and several security holes have been fixed. I recommend that everyone upgrade to 3.0.
